Lisa Martin is an artist who currently resides in Amherst, Nova Scotia with her husband Vaughn and two sons, Justin and Jeremiah. She is currently employed as the visual arts teacher at Tantramar Regional High School in Sackville, New Brunswick. Her education includes a degree from Queen's University as well as from Atlantic Baptist University. She hopes to pursue a Masters in Fine Art in the future. Lisa's current interest in painting centers on the relationship between biblical phrases, parables and prophecies from the Bible and how they relate to modern day environmental woes, sickness and disease. While painting is her first love, she also does some work in sterling silver and enjoys pottery using porcelain clay, in particular altered bowls. Her painting medium of choice is acrylic with the addition of impasto for added interest and often unexpected results. Recently she has taken up the process of felting, in particular the rolling method, and has been creating a line of unique felted bags. It is likely already apparent that Lisa has a passionate interest in environmental issues. The future of our planet, the wasting of precious resources, the chemicals put in the food we eat, and the consequences of global warming are of particular concern. She and her family have done their best to make their home environmentally friendly and live their lives having the smallest environmental footprint possible. Finally, Lisa has a genuine interest in human rights and believes strongly in the spirit of giving. Lisa has been involved in several group exhibits including the Light Night International Exhibit in Iceland, Cumberland County Open Art Exhibit, Sackville Art Association Show, Communities in Bloom juried exhibit in Truro, NS, Sackville Art Association Christmas Show, Transition House Fundraising Show,as well as solo exhibits.
